Light and Stillness (LichtStille)
18 translucent glass cubes are part of an inner-city traffic noise barrier made of limestone gabions.
It runs along the western Ringstrasse in Ingolstadt for 800 meters.
The cubes’ appearance in the stone wall alternates between translucency and physical presence.
Their crystalline physicality stands in exciting contrast to the physicality of the wall. The glass cubes are set
like shining jewels in the wall and let their effects take hold on both of their sides.
Different distances and heights for the glass cubes permit rhythm and melody to arise.
The tempo of traffic passage – radically different on the much - frequented Ringstrasse and the tranquil
residential
and playing street – determines the respective perception of the glass cubes and the
entire notation.
At dusk the crystalline objects begin to fill up slowly with blue light.
In a metaphorical sense they thus fill themselves with softly shining water and remind one of the Danube,
flowing nearby. |
